Here's my scenario: A series of seemingly unrelated events that happen: A Democratic governor (Whitmer, Evers, Newsom) is assassinated while running for re-election in 2022. Redistricting fails, baseball strike/lockout lasts until 2025. Water emergencies declared in Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico and parts of West Texas. Crop failures in several states. Hyper-inflation kicks in. Western states appeal to the Great Lakes states for fresh water. The Missouri and Mississippi Rivers dry up because of no snow. Lake Meade drops to nearly nothing, people start migrating north. Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Milwaukee all see increases in population not seen since the 1940's. Vegas, Phoenix lose population for the first time since the early 20th Century. Sports teams move or dissolve. Climate change eats away Long Island Sound. Cape Cod disappears. 2026 World Cup and '28 Olympics and Paralympics are relocated. The south becomes a rain forest. Electric cars become standard by 2028. CBS declares bankruptcy. Los Angeles loses 75% of its population by 2040. Portland becomes the reformed Confederation of States capital in 2045. Most of the west is desert and holds less than 15% of the population it had in 2020 by mid-century. Alaska becomes a province of Canada and Hawaii becomes its own nation. Trump dies in 2025. The last President of the United States, all 50 states, is...Joe Biden.
