It’s not just English-speaking countries. Japan has been in a state of deflation for going on 30 years. India’s society is still divided. Brazil took on too much with the World Cup and Olympics and it’ll take decades to recover. Fifty-three countries in Africa and not one of them have stable societies. There are reasons why the United States and UK are falling apart, Brexit and Trump just exacerbated the process. The America and Britain these kids grandparents and parents remember wasn’t all that great, either, in reality. Maybe, for them, it was a bit more pleasant, because it was a more benign time. Pre-Iranian Revolution, Saddam, the breakup of the Soviet Union, 9–11, etc. These kids are here and then, yes, they will go back home and improve their country’s standard of living. It will take us years to recover from this. I’ll be dead before that happens.
