Jameela Jamil’s coming out isn’t the issue. I don’t see her declaring herself as ‘queer’ as the issue. Was it awkward? Sure. But the ‘issue,’ if you will, is coming from the LGBTQ+ ‘community.’ That people attacked her for having a boyfriend, accused her of Munchausen’s By Proxy and saying that she can’t host a show celebrating ballroom culture is a bit much. Look at Andy Cohen and Graham Norton (and, in a historical context, William F. Buckley, who Gore Vidal claimed was closeted), they host very successful talk shows where they talk to straight guests.

Caira Conner’s column on Chronic conditions and their cause and effect points out the contradictions of those suffering from them. To the public, your family, friends and associates, you ‘look’ fine. But it isn’t the case. Crohn’s, MS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, even people who are clearly disabled, (Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida) get the ‘you look great’ compliment.

My point being is that your sexuality, which is fluid, should never be associated with whether or not you are ill or suffering from an ‘unseen’ condition. I’ll add this: In her show, she was the proverbial ‘fifth wheel,’ where, in the end, Tahani ends up staying in “The Good Place,” to help. Not like Eleanor, Jason and Chidi, who all ended up ‘walking through’ to the next dimension. It is, perhaps, the perfect description of where both Tahani and Jameela converge.
