Nice piece. Hemingway is proof that the adage "all journalists want to be writers and all writers (novelists) want to be journalists" is appro here. Plus, his treatment of the women in his life goes back to the way his mother treated him. Which is to say, not well. Gellhorn wasn't right for him, she wasn't right for any man, as it turned out. His latent (suspected) homosexuality and hers as well (we'll never know the truth, like many other things) are stuff which only add to the legend.
