Nixon. I could write a whole book on him. I know him better than I knew my own father. I have a friend who knew him in his later years, when he settled the Umpires strike. Rick Pearlstein's book 'Nixonland" (and partially 'Invisible Bridge') came closest to uncovering the real man. Years ago, I told my step-father that the Affordable Care Act was just Nixon's warmed-over plan from the early '70s. He didn't believe me until he looked it up. But, of course the Thompson obituary is classic, as is Breslin's book. Whether or not that old Nazi Kissinger (as played by Paul Sorvino in "Nixon") said what he said - "Imagine how great a man he could have been if someone would have loved him?" - is true, he was a tortured soul.
