Oregon is also home to Art Honeyman, (born with Cerebral Palsy, like me) a disabilities rights activist who was once refused service because of his disability. He pushed his chair with one foot, all the way from Portland to Salem to protest bus access for wheelchair users. In addition to 'sundown towns,' there were also 'circus freaks' laws, which is why Honeyman got kicked out of the diner. I had a similar experience.
