The Bloomberg Moment
I have no problem with Michael Bloomberg running for President.
I just wish he would have done it four years ago.
If the first question at tonight’s ‘debate’ in Las Vegas isn’t “Mayor Bloomberg, how is it that you are running now as a Democrat, when four years ago, you said you couldn’t win as an independent because you couldn’t stand the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency?”, then we are in for a very one-sided show.
In the past six weeks, I haven’t seen one ad for any candidate other than Bloomberg. I’ve received emails from Amy Klobuchar, letters from Joe Biden, Gary Peters, Elizabeth Warren and the DNC, DCCC, Emily’s List and a host of other progressive and Democratic candidates, but on my TV, it’s Michael Bloomberg, day and night.
On every channel not named HBO or Showtime.
Now, Bloomberg (or even my dead-for 52 years grandmother) would be more adept at running this country than Fat Donny, but that’s not the point. The larger question has to be is whether he can navigate a field of — and fend off — six others and another self-funded billionaire and uniting a Party that seems hellbent on saving the country while destroying itself?
