The Cowards of The GOP

So, for all their bluster, Mitch McConnell and Keven McCarthy are just as spineless as the Democrats they continually call spineless. Their boldness in the immediate aftermath of 1/6/21 melted away, according to yet another book about the Trump Insurrection, excerpts of which were printed in the New York Times this morning.

This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden And The Battle For America’s Future, by Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, due out May 3, details the chaotic aftermath of the 2020 election, the desperate, comical (and clearly criminal) attempts to change the results, the riot and the ultimate capitulation of McConnell and McCarthy to a man both privately despise.

In the article, McCarthy is portrayed as being both craven and feckless. He sees himself as the next Speaker of The House, yet in the early days following the Capitol being ransacked, he wanted Trump removed. The 25th Amendment, a forced resignation, convincing his caucus to vote for impeachment, all were shot down by other top leaders.

As they reported. “But in a brief window after the storming of the Capitol, Mr. McCarthy contemplated a total break with Mr. Trump and his most extreme supporters.

During the same Jan. 10 conversation when he said he would call on Mr. Trump to resign, Mr. McCarthy told other G.O.P. leaders he wished the big tech companies would strip some Republican lawmakers of their social media accounts, as Twitter and Facebook had done with Mr. Trump. Members such as Lauren Boebert of Colorado…
