Sunday, Kristen Welker took over as moderator of MtP, replacing Todd. Her first guest? The twice impeached, four-times indicted, libidinous former president*, Donald John Trump.
A man who lied so much during his time in office, The Washington Post tracked 30,573 of them. So, for those who already knew this, there were no expectations except the 78-minute train wreck that followed.
After 20 minutes of watching, I gave up. Welker, who was supposed to be a “whip-smart, take no prisoners, tough cookie,” journalist, a sharp contrast to Todd, who became a joke to many inside and outside the media. A professor friend of mine calls him “the chucktodd of Chuck Todd’s.”
Instead, she fell into the same trap that every interviewer, from Rona Barrett to Robin Leach, Larry King, Stuart Varney, Matt Lauer and most recently Kaitlin Collins have fallen into: She let Donny of Queens control the narrative. It was like Ali-Liston II. Welker never had a chance.
She never asked him about ‘Project 2025,’ (the GOP’s ‘platform’ for 2024) which calls for mass firings of government employees, you know, the hapless ones who slave away at the IRS or Social Security Administration, the elimination of the EPA, a…
