The Upside Down, Backwards Presidency

This is getting old:

Multiple reports say President Trump is planning a prime-time speech this week in the wake of George Floyd’s death amid nationwide protests and outcry not seen since the Vietnam War.

Oh, joy. A man, utterly incapable of empathy or compassion, someone possessing no morals or self-awareness, so obtuse and unaware of anything but his base needs, is going to feign empathy and compassion to a nation (and world) increasingly tired of his shenanigans.

For three-and-a-half years we have dealt with a man so bereft of anything approaching basic humanity, devoid of a shred of decency, a man so narcissistic, crass and to be blunt — mean — give a speech to try and calm a country in the middle of social upheaval not seen in 50+ years and a once-in-a-century pandemic?

A man, who a week ago, had a peaceful protest broken up with tear gas and pepper spray to walk over to St. John’s Church and hold up a Bible, upside down and backwards.

After his stunt, which has gone over like all his other meaningless stunts, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC., issued this statement:

“Let me be clear, he did not come to pray. He did not come to express remorse or consolation, he did not come to share the grief or to provide hope…
