Lets get right to it, shall we?

Over the weekend, I stumbled upon the 1983 movie WarGames, with a very young Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy as two kids who almost start World War III.

David (Broderick) is a high school kid just playing around on his IBM computer looking for games to play when he accidently hacks into NORAD’s system by setting his modem on automatic. Once in, he is asked “would you like to play a game?”

Unwittingly, in choosing “Global Thermonuclear War,” he sets off a chain of events, along with his friend/girlfriend Jennifer (Sheedy) that trigger NORAD’s computer into real-time preparedness for WW III. They are arrested, released, find the reclusive genius who developed ‘Joshua’ and then return to NORAD to save the day by having the computer play tic-tac-toe.

If it were only that easy in real life.

Right now, we are facing the real threat of World War III. Russia invaded Ukraine a week ago and is now attempting to finish off what they started eight years ago when they annexed Crimea following the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Vladimir Putin started this act by declaring two provinces in far eastern Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, as ‘sovereign nations.’ Which is a sick joke, because they’re not. They are occupied territory. Yes, after the Russians invaded. Something that hasn’t happened in Europe in four generations. 1939.
