US Soccer And The Way Forward
The United States Women’s National Soccer team won their fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday. They won it in spite of nearly everyone saying they couldn’t. The draw was too tough. They would have to beat France in the quarter-finals and England in the semi’s (they did). FIFA had rigged it (like we haven’t heard that before) so that France would win. Fox Sports analyst Alexi Lalas, at the start of the tournament last month, said US Soccer should have made up with defrocked Goalkeeper Hope Solo, calling the US’s goalkeeping and her ‘the elephant in the room.’ (Solo was commenting on the tournament for the BBC) Plus, they had sued the Federation over pay discrepancies as well as sponsor money.
And there was Megan. As in Rapinoe. She of the Rapinoe’s of Redding, California. Who’s father, Jim, and mother, Denise, voted for the Libidinous Asshole three years ago. Who said, earlier this year, “I’m not going to the fucking White House.” Redding has a field named after her, but the town and county are nonplussed at best about her fame. And sexuality.
Still, you have to love it when her girlfriend, basketball star Sue Bird writes a column for The Players Tribute titled “So The President F*cking Hates My Girlfriend,” and goes on to talk about everything, including her hair — “ our relationship when it comes to Megan’s fashion is based on what you might call a “modified democracy,” where we both give our opinion and then Megan does what she wants.)”
