You make some salient points about obliviousness, (you also forgot to include those who are disabled or elderly), but the bigger ill is indifference. We are so insulated from each other to the point where we don't care. Americans especially, but it's not confined to just our little place in the world. The last 18 months haven't helped alleviate the problems, but what does society look like after this current situation abates? That is the unanswered question.
